Create your own power and cut down energy bills

Energy Saving Trust is promoting renewable energy

September 2009 - With energy prices rising, there has never been a better time to investigate ways of cutting households bills. The East Midlands Energy Saving Trust advice centre is helping residents to plan for the long-term by advising them on suitable renewable energy technologies.

West Bridgford resident Jake Jackson was one of the first who had his home assessed by energy advisor Tom White from the East Midlands Energy Saving Trust advice centre. Tom White spent an hour gathering background information on current energy bills and carrying out an inspection of Mr Jackson's property.

Mr Jackson already had several energy saving measures installed: "We've got double glazing, bulk insulation, and some additional cladding on the walls. I've also got an energy efficient boiler. I think this house is as good as any down our street because of what I've done so far."

Mr Jackson, who has been living in his property for 22 years, had been looking at renewable energy for almost two years. After inspecting the house, the energy advisor discussed suitable renewable energy options with Mr Jackson, such as fitting of a wood fuel heating in the place of the gas boiler, and installing a wind turbine or solar panels on the property's roof.

Renewable Energy

After overseeing the inspection Daniel Smith, Marketing Manager of the East Midlands Energy Saving Trust advice centre said: "Mr Jackson has already done the basic necessities and is ready to take the next step. A lot more people are thinking about going down the renewable energy route. We are there to facilitate that."

Mr Jackson is convinced: "We cannot go on living in the same fashion, so if we can all make a contribution and it will not dent incomes then it's worth looking into it."

The East Midlands Energy Saving Trust advice centre is managed by Hestia Managed Services Limited.
